Abstract

Purpose of the research was to 1) Analyze the considerable of differences in the total income received by farmers before and during a decrease in the selling price of rubber in Mesuji Raya District Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, 2) To analyze the impact of a decrease in the selling price of rubber on the pattern of the business and consumption patterns of farmers in Mesuji Raya District Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, and 3) Describe the long-term strategy of farmers be up againts of fluctuations in the price of rubber in Mesuji Raya District Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. This research was conducted in the Sukasari village and Jaya Mulya village, Mesuji Raya District Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The site location is selection in deliberate (purposive) with consideration that the main livelihood of the Sukasari village and Jaya Mulya village is rubber farmers. Field data collection was conducted in May 2015. The method used in this study is a survey method. The sampling method used was disproportionated stratified random sampling. The results indicate that the reduction in the selling price of rubber greatly affect the high or the low income of the total household rubber farmers, the total income of households rubber farmers in Mesuji Raya District declined every month due to lower sales prices of rubber, the average total income of farm households decreased Rp. 439.220,00/month on samples Layer I, Rp. 592.481,00/month on samples Layer II, amounting to Rp. 2.136.529,00/month on samples Layer III and Rp. 3.055.430,00/month on a sample layer IV. Farmers rubber in the Mesuji Raya District in changing the patterns of bussines as a result of the decreasing in the selling price of rubber to indicate the medium criteria are at all layers of the sample. Meanwhile, in changing patterns of consumption as the impact of the decreasing in the selling price of rubber to indicate the medium criteria on the samples of I and II, as well as the low criteria on the samples of layer III and IV.In to be up againts of fluctuations the price of rubber, farmers in Mesuji Raya District applies three strategies, namely active strategy, a passive strategy and network strategy. Active strategy by exploit skill on farmers to search effort or side job and exploit the yard of house to planting as many as 28 samples or 70% of farmers and by using his yard for a fish pond and make poultry farmers as 12 samples or 30%. Passive strategy by reducing household spending is prioritized to meet the basic needs first rather than meet the needs of secondary and tertiary many as 32 samples or 80%. Network strategy by leveraging relationships to solve domestic economic problems solution is to borrow money to neighboring as 19 samples, or 47.5%, to borrow money to the tauke as 11 farmers or 27.5%, to borrow money to creditor as 8 samples or 20% and borrowed money to the bank there are only 2 or 5% sample of farmers.
