Abstract

Prevalence of stunting in Muara Enim Regency was 25.9% in 2023. There was an increase in stunting cases from 2022 to 2023 in Gelumbang sub-district from 19 cases to 44 cases, from 1 case to 11 cases in Kelekar sub-district and 9 cases to 10 cases in Lembak sub-district. This study aims to analyze the factors of complementary feeding on the incidence of stunting in children aged 6-24 months in Gelumbang, Kelekar, and Lembak sub-districts. This study used a cross-sectional design with multistage random sampling on 511 children in May-June 2024. Data analysis used univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The results showed that there was an incidence of stunting (26%) with the characteristics of male children (51.3%), age 9-24 months (83.4%), maternal age ≥ 20 years (97.3%) education ≥ high school (54%), the first complementary feeding at 6 months (69.1%), the frequency of appropriate complementary feeding at 6-8 months (67.1%) and 9-24 months (69.5%), diverse complementary food (56.6%), history of IMD (85.1%), exclusive breastfeeding (92.2%) and no history of infectious diseases (74.4%). Bivariate analysis showed that frequency of complementary feeding (p=0.013) and IMD (p=0.019) were associated with stunting. Multivariate analysis showed that children who received the frequency of complementary food not according to their age had a 1.7 times greater risk of stunting than those who received the frequency of complementary food according to their age (PR = 1.741). Children who have a history of IMD have a 0.4 times lower risk of stunting than children who do not have a history of IMD (PR = 0.428). Intensive IMD implementation and the frequency of complementary feeding according to the age of the child are expected to support the fulfillment of nutritional needs in children to improve optimal growth and development of children.
