Abstract
Process of alcoholises between Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and methanol with HCl as catalyst was conducted in a batch reactor equipped with heater, thermometer, and sampling apparatus to produce methyl ester for bio diesel. Bio diesel produced could be used as alternative fuel regarding with energy diversification using renewable fuel. Process variables included ratio of CPO and methanol, that is 1 : 3, 1 : 5, and 1 : 7, reaction temperature of 70, 90 , and 110 0C, and reaction time of 20, 40, 60 minutes. HCL 37 % was used as catalyst with the amount of 2 % from volume of CPO and agitation of 100 rpm. The amount of glycerol formed, free fatty acid, and total fatty acid were analyzed to determine conversion of the reaction. The amount of conversion was influenced by ratio of CPO and methanol, temperature, and reaction time. The conversion increased with the increase of ratio of CPO and methanol, temperature, and reaction time. The highest conversion of 70.4 % was found at the ratio of CPO and methanol, temperature, and reaction time of 1:7, 110 0C, and 60 minutes, respectively. Reaction kinetic constant increased as reaction temperature elevated. The highest reaction constant of 1,080x10-2 minutes-1 was found at 110 0C. Keywords: CPO, bio diesel, alcoholises, kinetic reaction.
