Abstract

The fetishism of tattoos as self-identity in the city of Palembang reflects a social phenomenon where tattoos are no longer only considered body art, but also having tattoos is starting to increase among the younger generation. Thus, the city's tattoo fetishism illustrates how this body art transcends its aesthetic function to become an integral part of individual identity narratives in an ever-evolving society. This research discusses the fetishism of tattoo users as personal identity in Palembang City, with a focus on the Circle House Tattoo. Using Theodor Adorno's theory of commodity fetishism and a qualitative descriptive approach, this research explores how tattoos go beyond their aesthetic function to become an integral part of an individual's identity narrative. Data was collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that social media and the environment play a significant role in shaping fetishism towards tattoos, which are seen by users as symbols of art and freedom. This research concludes that tattoo fetishism at Circle House Tattoo is influenced by social and cultural interactions that continue to develop.
