Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between emotional regulation and self-concealment in individuals who have experienced traumatic events. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between emotional regulation and self-concealment. This study was conducted using a quantitative research method with respondent criteria, namely individuals who have experienced traumatic events, the number of respondents in this study was 177 respondents and 50 tryout respondents who had experienced traumatic events. The sampling technique used was incidental sampling. The measuring instrument used was the self- concealment scale which refers to the dimensions of Larson (1990), the emotional regulation scale which refers to the dimensions of Gross (2007). The analysis in this study was carried out using the Pearson's product moment technique. The results of the analysis showed a significance value of 0.029 (p <0.05) with an r value of -0.164. This shows that there is a significant negative relationship between emotional regulation and self-concealment where the higher the emotional regulation, the lower the self-concealment and vice versa. Thus, the hypothesis in this study can be accepted.
