Abstract

Perspective is a way of seeing or understanding something from a particular point of view. This study examines public perception and acceptance of veiled women in Kampung Arab Al-Munawar, Palembang. The research explores diverse perspectives on the practice of veiling, considering cultural, religious, and social interaction factors. The findings reveal a range of acceptance levels, influenced by these factors, highlighting the complexity of public understanding of this religious symbol within a local context. This abstract discusses public perception in Kampung Arab Al-Munawar, Palembang, towards veiled women. The study aims to understand how the community views and interacts with women who wear the niqab. This research utilizes a qualitative approach with methods of observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that public perception towards veiled women in Kampung Arab Al-Munawar is diverse. Some members of the community view veiled women positively, seeing it as a symbol of obedience and piety. However, others hold more negative views, perceiving it as a form of oppression against women or even a threat to security and order. This research also reveals factors influencing public perception, such as education level, religious background, and personal experiences. The study highlights the importance of dialogue and understanding between community groups to build tolerance and mutual respect amidst diversity. This research concludes that it is crucial to understand and respond to public perception of veiled women critically and objectively. The community needs to be encouraged to understand that veiling is a personal choice and does not necessarily reflect an individual's identity or behavior. It is also essential to promote tolerance and mutual respect among community members, so that veiled women can coexist peacefully and avoid discrimination.
