Abstract

This research aims to describe postcolonial studies from Homi K. Bhabha's theory, namely the hybridity and ambivalence experienced by indigenous people in the era of colonialism in the novel Helen and Sukanta by Pidi Baiq and its implications for literature learning in high school. This research is included in the qualitative descriptive research type. Data collection techniques use reading techniques, namely researchers apply reading, note-taking and documentation techniques. Data analysis includes interactive models consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. In this research, hybridity was found in language, thought patterns, habits, marriage, education and religion. The emergence of hybridity was followed by acts of ambivalence that emerged from indigenous communities, starting from acts of ambivalence towards social conditions, political policies, issues of racism, and social stratification that existed between indigenous communities and Dutch citizens.
