Abstract
This study aims to describe the interaction between the main character and food, the socio-cultural background, and the representation of culinary elements as cultural identity in the novel Pengantin-pengantin Loki Tua by Yusi Avianto Pareanom, as well as its implications for literature learning in high schools. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques that include reading and note-taking. The primary data source is the novel Pengantin-pengantin Loki Tua, analyzed using Halligan's gastrocriticism perspective. The findings reveal six data points related to the main character's interaction with food, four data points on socio-cultural settings, and fifteen data points reflecting the gastrocriticism perspective. Culinary elements in the novel represent cultural identity through four main aspects: pleasure, which provides emotional satisfaction to the characters; art, which is evident in the aesthetics of cooking and presentation; names, which reflect cultural uniqueness; and history, which illustrates traditional values and cultural heritage. This study also has implications for high school literature learning, particularly in helping students understand the relationship between literature and culture through novel analysis. By using this novel as teaching material, students can enhance their appreciation of Indonesia's cultural heritage and develop awareness of the importance of preserving the diversity of Indonesian culinary traditions.
