Abstract

Stem rot (BPB) or basal stem rot (BSR) is a serious disease that affects oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). The disease is caused by the white rotten fungus Ganoderma boninense. It is suspected that the extract of the kencur plant can affect the growth of the G. boninense fungus. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of kencur plant exudate on the growth of G. boninense. The growth inhibition assay G. boninense consisted of seven samples of rhizome exudates with concentrations of 0; 1.25; 5 and 20%. Each assay arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with five replications. The growth variables observed are colony growth, decolorization of tanin medium, the values of EC and pH of the culture medium. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that the root and rhizome exudates of the kencur plant (Kaempferia galanga) have a negative allelopathic effect on the growth of colonies and the decolorization of tannins in Ganoderma boninense. The root and rhizome exudates of the kencur plant increase the EC of the culture medium of G. boninense, indicating the potential for plasma membrane leakage. Exudates can cause a decrease in the pH of the medium.
