Abstract

This research aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions of traditional market traders in Mainan Village, Sembawa Sub-district, Banyuasin Regency. The focus of the research includes the demographic characteristics of traders, income levels, expenses, challenges faced and survival strategies in running the business. The research method used is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation involving 10 traders as respondents. This research uses the socio- economic concept of Soerjono Soekanto. The results showed that the socio- economic conditions of traditional market traders in Mainan Village include economic conditions, social conditions and business conditions. The survival strategies of traders in selling in the face of a slum and messy market include: maintaining product quality and cleanliness, friendly and personalized service, use of social media, arrangement and cleanliness of stalls as well well as price flexibility and promotion. Based on these findings, this study recommends improving market facilities, waste management and market cleanliness, counseling and coaching traders, and utilizing digital technology. Thus, the existence of traditional markets can continue to make a positive contribution to the local economy in Mainan Village.
