Abstract

Fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was one of the pests that was difficult to control in maize. This research aimed to determine the effect of three concentrations of Metarhizium anisopliae crude extract on S. frugiperda larvae. The entomopathogenic fungi used in this research was M. anisopliae. The concentrations used consisted of 0 ppm control, CaTpPga 50 ppm, CaTpPga 100 ppm, and CaTpPga 150 ppm. The results showed a significant difference in mortality of fall armyworms during 21st days of observation between the control and the treatment of 50 ppm, 100 ppm, and 150 ppm with the lowest mortality value found in the control which was 0.57% and the highest mortality value was at a concentration of 150 ppm. the lowest percentage of pupae emerged was in the treatment of 150 ppm and the lowest percentage of adult emerged was in the treatment of 150 ppm. Therefore, the crude extract with the highest concentration of 150 ppm was the most lethal to S. frugiperda larvae. Further research should be conducted by testing various concentrations of M. anisopliae crude extract, including concentrations above 150 ppm, to determine the maximum limit of effectiveness. In the future, it will be recommended to conduct field tests to assess the effectiveness of the extract under actual field conditions and its impact on the environment.
