Abstract

Leprosy, a neglected tropical disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, remains a global health issue, with Indonesia ranking third in the world for the highest number of cases, after India and Brazil. Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, has a significant prevalence of leprosy, particularly in the Karya Maju Community Health Center area. In addition to its physical health impacts, leprosy generates social stigma that reduces patient adherence to treatment. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing treatment adherence among leprosy patients in the region. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used in this study. Primary data were collected through questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from literature reviews. Univariate analysis described respondents’ characteristics, and bivariate analysis identified relationships between independent and dependent variables. The results showed that low education levels, limited knowledge, incomes below Rp3,547,745, and negative perspectives significantly correlated with low treatment adherence. However, most respondents (70.7%) still demonstrated adherence to leprosy treatment. Employment status did not show a significant correlation with adherence, while the availability of medication was not further analyzed as it met established criteria. This study emphasizes the importance of improving health education, knowledge, and patients’ perspectives to enhance treatment adherence among leprosy patients Keywords: Leprosy Patients, Treatment Adherence, Musi Banyuasin Regency.
