Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of envy in adolescents who use Instagram social media. The background of this study is based on the phenomenon of increasing use of social media among adolescents, especially Instagram, which often triggers social comparison and envy of the success and happiness of others. The study was conducted involving 160 respondents aged 18-24 years who were active Instagram users. The data collection method used a questionnaire that was compiled systematically and the analysis was carried out with a descriptive approach. The measuring instrument used in this study was the Envy Scale that the researcher compiled himself with a reliability of 0,930 with N=24The validity test was carried out using the correlated item total correlation technique with the help of SPSS Statistics 16 for Windows. The criteria used to select valid items is if the item correlation ("r" _"ix" ) ≥ 0,30, then the item is declared valid. The results of the study showed that the majority of adolescents experienced envy ranging from the moderate category, which was influenced by social comparison and dissatisfaction with themselves. These findings are expected to provide insight into understanding the psychological impact of social media use and can be a reference for further research related to adolescent mental health in the digital era.
