Abstract

The challenge faced in oil palm cultivation is the attack of the main pest, the rhinoceros beetle (Orytes rhinoceros). This pest attacks oil palm plants from the nursery stage up to 2.5 years of age, damaging the growing point and causing damage to young leaves. The beetle bores and eats the leaflets of unopened young leaves, causing the leaves to exhibit symptoms of being cut or clipped like a "V" when they open. The purpose of this research is to determine the formulation of bioinsecticide with an effective mixture of solid waste as a growth medium for Bacillus thuringiensis. how high the mortality rate of the Bacillus thuringiensis bioinsecticide is against Oryctes rhinoceros larvae. This study uses a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replications. Each replicate requires 10 Oryctes rhinoceros instar 3 larvae, with the organic media using tapioca waste and palm kernel meal in a 2:1 ratio. The treatment codes are P1: MSP + (O + BKS), P2: C14 + (O + BKS), P3: KJ3R5 + (O + BKS), P4: SMR + (O + BKS), P5: DLKK1 + (O + BKS), P6: control (turex). The larval mortality applied with each bioinsecticide showed no significant differences in results. The most effective treatment for quickly killing the larvae was found in treatment P1 (MSP + (O + BKS)). The level of toxicity of Bacillus thuringiensis in killing Oryctes rhinoceros larvae highly depends on the environment, nutrient compatibility, the pH required in the growth medium, and the protein crystal form produced by each isolate. This research needs to be continued to achieve more optimal results of bioinsecticides with the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis.
