Abstract

Maize is severely damaged in the early phase of the plant, which means that the vegetative phase is a vulnerable phase where the intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda attack is quite high, reaching 100%, This study aims to determine the effect of liquid bioinsecticide formulations with a shelf life of three months on armyworms. The formulation test was carried out on the armyworm topically, namely by dripping liquid bioinsecticide suspension on the first instar armyworm with as many as 50 larvae for one replicate, which was designed according to a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with nine treatments of entomopathogenic fungi of JgSPK isolate from the species Beauveria bassiana, CaTpPga isolate from the species Metarhizium anisopliae, and JaTpOi (2) from the species Penicillium, as well as one control treatment and repeated 3 times. The highest average conidia density was obtained from JaTpOi (2) isolate, which amounted to 1.28 x 1010 conidia mL-1 . The highest average mortality was also obtained from isolates with the code JaTpOi (2) E2 fungal species P. citrinum with an average percentage of 56% on 14 days of observation. The lowest larval weight was obtained from isolate JaTpOi (2) (E2) of P. citrinum fungal species with an average of 82.67 mg/individual and the lowest dung weight was in isolate JaTpOi (2) (E2) of 32.52 mg/individual in 14 days of observation. The highest average pupal length was found in the control treatment which was 11.59 mm/pupae, the percentage of pupal emergence, imago emergence, sex ratio, and the number of eggs laid by female imago was lowest in isolate JaTpOi(2) (E2). This study concluded that the mass of liquid bioinsecticide formulations stored for three months can affect the growth and development of armyworms. The highest larval mortality was obtained from isolate JaTpOi (2) (E2) of the fungal species Penicillium citrinum with a mortality percentage of 56% within 2 weeks after application. Further research needs to be done on the effect of stored mass of bioinsecticides formulated in liquid form against armyworms.
