Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of self-concept on the interpersonal communication patterns of Generation Z and its relationship with the tendency of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). A descriptive quantitative method was employed, with data collected through questionnaires completed by 100 Communication Science students at Sriwijaya University. The findings indicate that a positive self-concept, encompassing dimensions of self-fulfillment, autonomy, honesty, and emotional adjustment, significantly correlates with lower levels of FoMO. Additionally, interpersonal communication patterns, including openness, empathy, supportiveness, positivity, and equality, also influence FoMO levels. The synergy between a strong self-concept and effective interpersonal communication patterns significantly reduces the tendency of FoMO. This study concludes that managing self-concept and strengthening interpersonal communication patterns are key to mitigating the negative impacts of FoMO on Generation Z, particularly in the digital era.
