Abstract
Coping mechanisms are ways or efforts made by individuals, in this case rice farmers, to deal with changes that occur. The objectives of this research activity are (1) Describe the characteristics of farmer households and land that experience flooding in swampy areas in Pemulutan Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency; (2) Analyze the level of risk of rice farming due to flooding experienced by rice farmers in swampy areas in Pemulutan Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency; (3) Analyze the technical implementation of cultivation carried out by rice farmers in swampy areas in Pemulutan Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency; (4) Analyze the coping mechanisms of rice farmers against flooding in swampy areas in Pemulutan Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research was conducted from August 2023 until completion. The research location was in two villages, namely Tanjung Pasir Village and Pemulutan Ulu Village with a total of 130 respondents using a simple random sampling method. Respondent characteristics are divided into characteristics of farmer households consisting of age, education, farming experience and income then land characteristics consisting of farmer land area, swamp typology, productivity and land area affected by flooding. In terms of risk level calculations in this study with an indicator of 40%, the results in Tanjung Pasir village were 19.22% (MT 1 Shallow Swamp), 26.43% (MT 1 Middle Swamp), 40.52% (MT 2 Shallow Swamp), 47.61% (MT 2 Middle Swamp). The technical implementation of cultivation carried out by rice farmers has been carried out through descriptive analysis in the high to very high category. The coping mechanisms applied by rice farmers are almost all 125 farmers or with a percentage of 96.15% are carried out adaptively and only a handful are categorized as maladaptive as many as 5 farmers or with a percentage of 3.84%.
