Abstract

The implementation of inclusive education at SMA Negeri 14 Palembang which holds inclusive classes for children with special needs (ABK) is one of the efforts of the government, especially the South Sumatra Provincial Government, to provide adequate educational rights for children with special needs so that social inequality and gender equality do not occur. The main focus of this research is to understand how the concept of implementing inclusive education is implemented, the challenges faced by teachers and students, and the impact of an experience-based inclusion approach on the academic and social development of children with special needs. The method used in this research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach to the experiences of both ABK and non-ABK students who take part in inclusive education programs in inclusion classes. Data was collected through interviews with key informants, main informants and supporting informants as well as direct observation in inclusion classes. The results of the research show that the implementation of inclusive education in inclusion classes uses a regular class model (full inclusion), namely a heterogeneous class consisting of ABK and non-ABK students who study together in one class with the same curriculum but with different and varied methods. Apart from that, there are challenges in implementing inclusive education at SMA Neegeri 14 Palembang, such as a lack of special training for teachers and limited facilities, but the inclusion program has a positive impact on increasing the social and emotional abilities of children with special needs and also provides collaboration between regular teachers and accompanying teachers as well as Support from parents plays a very important role in the success of inclusive education. Even though inclusive education still faces various obstacles, this program can be an effective alternative in realizing a fairer and more equitable education for all children. Keywords: Inclusive Education, Inclusion Class, Children with Special Needs (ABK).
