Abstract

Swamp land, as a sub-optimal land type, significantly contributes to rice production in South Sumatra. Local wisdom, such as floating seedling, is an adaptive cultural practice aligned with regional conditions. This study aims to (1) identify local wisdom in managing swamp rice farming using floating seedling in Pematang Bungur Village, South Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency; (2) analyze the income generated from lebak swamp rice farming based on floating seedling; and (3) Analyze the influence of floating seeding and other factors on swamp rice farming income. The research, conducted in November 2024, utilized a survey method and simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively and using multiple linear regression based on the Cobb-Douglas function. The findings indicate that local wisdom is evident in land preparation, seed procurement, planting, and post-harvest activities, though not in maintenance and harvest management. The total annual income of swamp rice farming was IDR 435,037,000 per land area per year with an average income of IDR 10,875,925 per land area per year. Income was significantly influenced by production costs, yields, and selling prices, while land area and floating seedling practices showed no significant effect.
