Abstract
Background Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by systemic inflammation and the production of autoantibodies, often accompanied by various clinical manifestations. Disease activity in SLE is measured using scores such as MEX-SLEDAI. The cytokine Interleukin-10 (IL-10) has a controversial role in immune regulation in SLE, acting both as anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory. This study aims to analyze the correlation between serum IL-10 levels and the degree of disease activity in SLE patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Methods This observational analytical study involved SLE patients that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Serum IL-10 levels were measured using the ELISA method, while disease activity was assessed using the MEX-SLEDAI score. Data were analyzed using the Spearman test to identify correlations between serum IL-10 levels and the degree of disease activity in SLE patients. Results The majority Of the 48 subjects studied, had mild disease activity. The average serum IL-10 level was 10.58 ng/dL. In SLE patients, IL-10 levels increased with the degree of disease activity. The Spearman test results showed no statistically significant correlation between serum IL-10 levels and the degree of disease activity in SLE patients (p=0.059, r=0.274). Conclusion There is no significant correlation between serum IL-10 levels and the degree of disease activity in SLE.
