Abstract

This research aims were to determine the effect of briquette biochar and Nitrogen fertilizer on paddy production on chemical soil properties, and to obtain the best dosages of Biochar and Urea fertilizer for rice yield. The research conducted from August 2018 to January 2019 on the Glass House, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The analysis of chemical soil properties was carried out in the Laboratory of Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research method used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (RALF) with 9 treatment combinations. The first factor was a dosage of biochar wich were B0 0 tons ha-1 , B1 10 tons ha-1, and B2 20 tons ha-1. The second factor was a dosage of Nitrogen fertilizer N0 0 kg ha-1, N1 250 kg ha-1, and N2 500 kg ha -1 . The results of this research showed that the application of briquette biochar and Nitrogen fertilizer significantly affected the percentage of filled spikelet and percentage of empty grain, however did not significantly affected the values of soil pH, CEC and C-Organic and grain weight each clump and grain weight each 100 grains. Based on the results of analysis of variance, the combination treatment of biochar briquettes with a dose of 10 tons ha-1 and 500 kg ha-1 Urea fertilizer is the best treatment because it gives a significant effect on the percentage of filled spikelet (87,48%) and decreased the percentage of empty grain (12,52%). This combination treatment is suggested to be applied as recommendation for paddy cultivation at swamp land. Keywords: Paddy, Swamp Soil, Biochar, Nitrogen Fertilizer
