Abstract
Memaye (Leea indica (Burm.f.) Merr) has been used by the Besemah tribe in Lahat, South Sumatra to treat several diseases. Memaye leaves contain secondary metabolite compounds such as glycosides, terpenoids, flavonoids and steroids that can be used as infectious and degenerative drugs. This study aims to identify metabolite profiles, dominant compounds, and explore the anti-infective and antidegenerative content of memaye leaves. The method used was Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument. The results of the GC-MS analysis were then traced using the PubChem, KEGG, Spectrabase, PlantCye, and ChEBI websites. Based on GC-MS analysis, the metabolite profile of memaye leaf ethanol extract has 8 compounds with a total abundance of 100%. Metabolite compounds that were successfully detected were Formamide, N,N-dimethyl (47.69%), Mesitylene (23.86%), Benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-ethylhexyl) ester (14.63%), Supraene (5.91%), 16-Heptadecenal (3.87%), and Imidazole-2-hydrazide-1-carboxylic acid, methyl ester (1.46%), Phenethylamine, 3,4,5-trimethoxy-. alpha methyl (1.44%) and Acetic acid,[(aminocarbonyl)amino]oxo (1.24%) which have potential as antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antiocarcinogenic. The detected compounds came from the shikimic acid biosynthesis pathway (50%), malonic acid (37%), and mevalonic acid pathway (13%). It is known that the detected compounds belong to 6 classes, namely amide class (47.69%), aromatic (38.49%), triterpenoid (5.91%), aldehyde (3.87%), alkaloid (2.90%) and carboxylic acid (1.24%). The results of anti-infective and antidegenerative exploration of ethanol extracts of memaye leaves show compounds that have biological activity as anti-infectives, namely Acetic acid,[(aminocarbonyl)amino] and Mesitylene, compounds that can be used as antidegeneratives, namely Supraene, while those that are anti-infective and antidegenerative consist of Formamide,N,N-dimethyl; 16-Heptadecenal; Phenethylamine,3,4,5-trimethoxy-alpha methyl; Imidazole-2-hydrazide-1-carboxylic acid and 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-ethylhexyl) ester. This study shows the great potential of memaye leaves as a source of bioactive compounds that can be developed as anti-infective and antidegenerative.
