Abstract
Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. Breast cancer patients are at risk of experiencing the effects of treatment that affect quality of life, such as fatigue, pain, depression, anxiety, and sexual problems. Therefore, measuring quality of life(QOL) is important, and FACT-B questionnaires were used to measure QOL in this study. This study aimed to find the factors affecting the QOL of breast cancer patients in Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Method: This study is descriptive in the form of a case series. It aims to determine the factors affecting the QOL of breast cancer patients who come to the Surgical Oncology clinic of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital. This study is directed to describe a community or society to create an objective picture of a condition and then continue by analyzing related factors with QOL of breast cancer patients. Result: One hundred fifty breast cancer patients were assessed, with the most significant number of patients aged 40-60 years (70%), elementary-junior high school education (41.3%), low income (50.7%), married (83.3%), locally advanced stage (44.0%), and completed chemotherapy (41.3%). This study used the FACT-B questionnaire with a median of 75.5 as the limit for assessing high and low QOL. Good QOL is in breast cancer patients aged <40 years, elementary-junior high school level, high-income, married, advanced stage, and no chemotherapy. Chemotherapy has a moderate correlation and significant association with the QOL of breast cancer patients, while age, education level, economic status, marital status, and stage have a slight correlation. Conclusion :. This study highlights the effects of breast cancer on various aspects of QOL. The study found that individual patient characteristics, especially chemotherapy, may play a more prominent role in influencing QOL outcomes in breast cancer patients.
