Abstract

Maspari Island is the only small island in South Sumatra Province located in the southern part of the Bangka Strait and has dynamic water conditions. The waters around Maspari Island are influenced by the mixing of fresh water from 3 large rivers from South Sumatra with seawater in the Bangka Strait, which causes high turbidity levels and variations in salinity, dissolved oxygen, and pH. These conditions have an impact on the marine ecosystem, including the abundance of fish that depend on the presence of coral reefs. This study aims to analyze the abundance of fish in the coral reef ecosystem in the waters of Maspari Island, as well as the relationship between fish abundance and aquatic environmental parameters. Data were collected from three stations using a purposive sampling method with gillnet fishing gear during the east season in July 2024. Based on the research results, the fish found were 8 species from 8 families with an average abundance of 1561 ind/ha. The fish diversity index was classified as moderate, the uniformity index was in the high category, while the dominance index was in the low category. The environmental parameters that most affect fish abundance are temperature, salinity, pH and DO.
