Abstract

Exhaust gas emissions from motor vehicle is main sources of Carbon Monoxide (CO) in the environment. so people who working around the highway have a high risk of CO gas exposure. Shoe repairers spend a long time on the side of the highway Therefore, this study aims to analyze the environmental health risks due to CO gas exposure in shoe repairers in 16 Ilir market, Palembang city. This study used the Environmental Health Risk Analysis (EHRA) method with a deterministic approach and the Central Tendency Estimate (CTE) scenario. The population in this study were shoe repairers in 16 Ilir Market Palembang which amounted to 34 people, sampling was done using total sampling technique. Data was collected by filling out questionnaires and interviews as well as CO measurements with CO meters. The results showed the average CO concentration at 3 measurement points was 1,908.5 µg/m3 (1,145- 2,290.5 µg/m3). The Cair-adj value of non-carcinogenic CO exposure was 591.635 µg/m3 with a Risk level (RQ) of 0.06. The conclusion of this study is that shoe repairers in the 16 Ilir Palembang market are not at risk of non-carcinogenic health problems due to CO exposure.
