Abstract

Stunting is one of the main concerns of SDGs in the field of health and welfare. The prevalence of stunting in Ogan Ilir Regency in 2018 reached 22.9%. This study aims to determine cases of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months based on demographic factors and maternal pregnancy examination history in 13 stunting locus villages in Ogan Ilir Regency. This study used a case control study design. The number of samples was 129 respondents with a ratio of 1: 2 consisting of 43 cases and 86 controls taken using the purposive sampling method to determine case samples and the random sampling method to determine control samples. Data collection was carried out by interviews, filling out questionnaires, observation, and taking coordinate points directly. The inclusion criteria for this study were stunted and non-stunted toddlers aged 24-59 months. Data analysis used univariate and spatial analysis for variable distribution and bivariate analysis chi-square (95% CI) to determine the relationship between variables. This study examined demographic factors (maternal education level, maternal employment status, average household income and expenditure, JKN ownership, and participation in the BANSOS program) and maternal pregnancy examination history factors (maternal BMI, ANC visits, and maternal TTD consumption behavior). The results showed that the distribution of stunting cases tended to be close together, and there was a relationship between maternal employment status p-value 0.031 (OR 0.27; CI 0.08-0.88), average household income p-value 0.034 (OR 2.27; CI 1.05-4.88), and ANC visits p-value 0.032 (OR 0.18; CI 0.04-0.83) with stunting cases in toddlers aged 24-59 months in Ogan Ilir Regency. It can be concluded that mothers have an important role in reducing the risk of stunting. To reduce the incidence of stunting in toddlers, it is recommended to actively participate and utilize existing health services to monitor child growth and development.
