Abstract
Plants that have the potential as antibacterials to overcome bacteria that cause body odor (Staphylococcus epidermidis) are ethanol extracts of yellow bajakah roots which contain citral. This study aims to make lotions with various concentrations of ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root (0%, 2%, 4%, and 6%) as antibacterial against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The lotion evaluation test included organoleptical test, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, simple irritation, stability (cycling test), zone of inhibition, and the best formula. Data analysis using SPSS obtained the best lotion formula results in formula 3 with a concentration of 6% yellow bajakah root ethanol extract which has a slightly liquid thick texture, yellow color, distinctive odor, homogeneous, has a pH of 5.18, viscosity of 2,585.35cP, spreadability of 6.8cm, stickiness of 5.34 seconds, no irritation, and is stable in storage. Data analysis used One Way Anova and Duncan tests. The results showed that ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The test results of the inhibition zone of the extract obtained a P-value <0.05. Antibacterial activity using the pitting method resulted in an inhibition zone diameter of 11 ± 0.1mm. KHM value of lotion ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root at 50% concentration and comparative control of ethanol extract of yellow bajakah root at 96% concentration. lotion formula 3 has the best characterization and antibacterial activity.
