Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem that has received significant attention both in Indonesia and globally; however, research focusing specifically on stunting among school-aged children in Indonesia is limited. Numerous factors can influence the occurrence of stunting, one of which falls under the category of indirect factors such as socioeconomic status and environmental sanitation. This study is analyze the relationship between parental education, parental occupation, family income, personal hygiene behavior, and environmental sanitation with the incidence of stunting among school-aged children at SDN 072 in Palembang City. A quantitative method with Chi-Square analysis was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 80 students selected using the stratified random sampling. Data analysis techniques included univariate and bivariate analyses. The univariate analysis focused on respondent characteristics by examining the frequency distribution of variables such as age, gender, class, daily allowance, history of infectious diseases, number of children in the family, parental occupation, parental education, and parental income. The study's findings indicate that 42.5% of respondents experienced stunting and 57.5% had normal nutrition status. Additionally, it was found that the majority of respondents already demonstrated good personal hygiene behavior and sanitation practices. Statistical tests using the Chi-Square method revealed no significant relationship between stunting and the following variables: father's education (p-value = 1.000), mother's education (p-value = 0.725), father's occupation (p-value = 1.000), mother's occupation (p-value = 1.000), family income (p-value = 1.000), personal hygiene behavior (p-value = 0.864), and environmental sanitation (p-value = 0.874). It is recommended that parents pay more attention to their children's growth in terms of height according to age. Furthermore, the use of multivariate statistical analysis is suggested to examine more complex relationships between variables
