Abstract

Ethanol extracts of Spirulina platensis and Chlorella pyrenoidosa are thought to have potential as natural anticancer. This study aims to screen the potential for anticancer activity in vitro with the DPPH method and in vivo using the BSLT method. The test animals used were 48-hour-old Artemia Salina which were divided into 4 groups. The negative group was given 1% DMSO solvent, the positive group was given potassium dichromate, and the test groups were S. platensis and C. pyrenoidosa with concentrations of 1000 ppm, 500 ppm, 250 ppm, and 125 ppm, respectively. The results of KLT obtained antioxidant activity is shown by compounds that are polar. Based on the identification of bioactive compounds and thin layer chromatography, these two microalgae contain alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, triterpenoids, and various pigment compounds including xanthophyll, chlorophyll, pheophytin, lutein, and asthaxanthin. The results obtained IC50 values of antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of S. platensis and C. pyrenoidosa are 1775 and 3552.5 ppm, respectively. The results of antioxidant activity screening BSLT method obtained LC50 value of ethanol extract of S. platensis and C. pyrenoidosa respectively 35.56 and 897.64 ppm. Based on the test results obtained, S. platensis and C. pyrenoidosa have potential as anticancer agents. Keywords : anticancer, antioxidant, BSLT, Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Spirulina platensis
