Abstract

Cephalopachus bancancanus is one of Indonesia's endemic animals and its presence is becoming a cause for concern. Cephalopachus bancanus ssp. bancanus from Bangka Island with Vulnerable status and Cephalopachus bancanus ssp. saltator from Belitung Island is one of the subspecies with Endangered status based on IUCN redlist data. To preserve the two subspecies of Cephalopachus bancanus from Bangka Island and Belitung Island, conservation and polymorphism efforts must be carried out using six Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primers, namely T4, T5, T6, T7, T8 and T9 and using 6 samples from Bangka Island and 6 samples from Belitung Island. Two of the six RAPD primers produced polymorphic bands with 14 DNA fragments and there was one primer that was capable of producing one monomorphic DNA fragment. The percentage of polymorphic bands amplified from the two RAPD primers produced a high percentage, which means that there is high genetic variation. The results of similarity analysis with a value range of 0.428 to 1.000 show that there are different similarities between the samples. Samples BEL 3 and BEL 5 have the closest relationship with a value of 1,000 and sample BEL 6 has the most distant relationship with the other eleven samples. The kinship of Cephalopachus bancanus from Bangka Island and Belitung Island based on cluster analysis is divided into 2 main groups. BEL 1, BEL 2, BEL 3, BEL 5, BGK 1, BGK 2, BGK 3, BGK 4, BGK 5 and BGK 6 but are on different branches of the dendogram and Group 2 consists of samples BEL 4 and BEL 6. The samples with the closest kinship are in samples BEL 3 and BEL 5, while the furthest distance is in sample BEL 6 with the other eleven sample.
