Abstract
Silver nanoparticles have various applications, such as antibacterial, antidiabetic, anticancer, pesticide waste decomposer, and catalyst. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles in this study was carried out using an extract of jambu hutan leaves (S. pyrifolium) as a bioreductor to reduce 40 mL of a 1 mM AgNO₃ solution, with variations in extract volume at 3 mL, 5 mL, and 7 mL, and variations in heating temperature at 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C for 30 minutes. The formation of nanoparticles was indicated by a color change from clear to yellow-brown and the appearance of an SPR (Surface Plasmon Resonance) peak at 400-450 nm in the UV-Vis spectrum. The best result of Nanoparticle synthesis was obtained in the variation of extract volume of 5 mL with a heating temperature of 70°C at a synthesis time of 24 hours, with a peak at 429 nm. IR spectral data identified the presence of functional groups as a bioreductors, such as hydroxyl, amine, and carboxylate groups. The results of characterization by XRD revealed that the 2θ angles of the synthesized silver nanoparticles matched those of silver nanoparticles from the JCPDS database. Besides, it showed an average crystal size of 14,0417 nm through calculation of the Debye-Scherrer method. The antibacterial activity test of silver nanoparticles using the disc diffusion method on E. coli and S. aureus bacteria produced clear zones with diameters of 10.3 mm (54.75%) and 11.26 mm (40.56%). The results indicate that jambu hutan leaf extract can be utilized as a bioreductor in nanoparticle synthesis and provides potential as an antibacterial agent.
