Abstract

Background: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune or inflammatory disease that causes significant damage, occurs because the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing inflammation of the blood vessels. Abnormalities with the loss of the ability to distinguish between foreign substances and one's own tissues and biological responses in urine and blood can help diagnose SLE. Methods: This study is a retrospective descriptive study using a cross-sectional approach. The subjects of this study were all patients diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in the period January-December 2023 with the aim of identifying the CBC profile and microbiological characteristics of pediatric SLE patients with confirmed bacterial infections at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Results: From the research results, it was found that 40 patients (90.9%) had positive anemia. In leukocytes, 13 patients (29.5%) had positive leukopenia while 8 patients (18.1%) had positive leukocytosis. Platelets were found in 5 patients (11.3%) with positive thrombocytopenia while 1 patient (2.2%) had positive thrombocytosis. Neutrophils were found in 13 patients (29.5%) with positive neutropenia and 20 patients (45.4%) with positive neutrophilia. Lymphocytes were found in 21 patients (47.7%) with positive lymphopenia while 11 patients (25%) had positive lymphocytosis. Monocytes were found in 2 patients (4.5%) with positive monocytopenia while 21 patients (47.7%) had positive monocytosis. Eosinophilia data were positive in 4 patients (9%) and all patients had negative basophilia data. LED there were 9 patients (20.4%) with LED <20 mm/hour. The most common bacterial isolates found were Escherichia coli with 7 isolates (43.9%). In the sensitivity test of Escherichia coli isolates to antibiotics, the results showed that they were 100% sensitive to the antibiotics meropenem, ertapenem, amikacin, pipercacillin, tygecycline, nitrofurantoin. Conclusion: The results of the study showed positive anemia in 40 patients (90.9%). LED was found in 9 patients (20.4%) with LED <20 mm/hour. The most common bacterial isolates found were Escherichia coli with 7 isolates (43.9%). In the sensitivity test of Escherichia coli isolates to antibiotics, the results showed that they were 100% sensitive to meropenem, ertapenem, amikacin, pipercacillin, tygecycline, nitrofurantoin antibiotics.
