Abstract
Procion red is one of the dyes often used in the textile industry which is mutagenic and carcinogenic so harmful to the environment if not treated properly. This research uses photodegradation method to degrade procion red dye. Photodegradation variables of Fe3O4/Kitosan Alginate/ZnO composite against procion red dye include concentration, contact time and pH with visible light lamp irradiation optimized using RSM (Response Surface Methodology) using BBD (Box Benhken Design) model in order to get the best photodegradation effectiveness with the appropriate model. Characterization results using XRD showed the highest intensity at 2θ = 36.29o with a particle size of 60.24 nm. SEM-EDS characterization results showed an aggregate morphology with constituent elements such as C (22.0%), N (2.00%), O (36.0%), Fe (27.0%) and Zn (13.0%). VSM results from the hysteresis curve show a saturation magnetization value of 60.43 emu/g which indicates the composite is superparamagnetic. The band gap value from UV-Vis DRS characterization was 1.94 eV. pHpzc of Fe3O4/Kitosan Alginate/ZnO composite was obtained at pH 6.8. Quadratic model for photodegradation effectiveness was obtained at a concentration of 20 ppm, contact time of 119 minutes and pH 3 percent effectiveness of 49.59%.
