Abstract

Farmers usually control insect pests using synthetic insecticides. However, long-term use and exceeding the usage limit can cause environmental damage and pest resistance. The use of natural insecticides is more recommended in pest control because it is more environmentally friendly. One alternative is to use star fruit extract as a natural insecticide. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective concentration of star fruit extract that can affect the mortality of necklace crickets and the Lethal Concentration 50 (LC50) value of star fruit extract as a natural insecticide against the mortality of necklace crickets. The study was conducted from October to December 2024 at the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, and the Animal Biosystematics Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with starfruit extract treatment groups, namely 10%, 20%, 40% and 60%, as well as a positive control treatment group of 1% baygon and a negative control of aquades. The parameters observed were mortality, behavior and morphology. Data analysis used ANOVA, Duncan's advanced test, probit regression and linear regression. The results of this study indicate that starfruit extract has an effect on the mortality of necklace crickets with an effective concentration of 60% with a mortality percentage of 88% at 24 hours of treatment and the LC50 value of starfruit extract, namely 7.521% at 24 hours of treatment with the toxic or poison category.
