Abstract

This study aims to optimize the consumption rate and growth of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot by adding taro flour (Colocasia esculenta) as a prebiotic in feed media based on pineapple peel and coconut pulp waste. The research was conducted at the Animal Husbandry Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in October–November 2024 using a Complete Random Design (RAL) consisting of four treatments, namely P0 (50% coconut pulp + 50% pineapple peel), P1 (50% coconut pulp + 40% pineapple peel + 10% taro flour), P2 (40% coconut pulp + 50% pineapple peel + 10% taro flour), and P3 (40% coconut pulp + 40% pineapple peel + 20% taro flour), with six repetitions. The results showed that the addition of taro flour significantly increased the consumption rate of BSF maggot feed, especially in the P3 treatment (23.27 ± 2.79 g/day), compared to P0 (16.88 ± 3.20 g/day). However, there was no significant difference in the efficiency of digestion feed conversion (ECD), which ranged from 13.62% to 22.79%. Maggot growth, both in terms of weight and width, showed a significant influence on the rate of consumption, indicating that taro flour supported the growth of BSF maggot optimally. Therefore, the use of fruit waste and taro flour as a feed medium can be an effective alternative to BSF maggot cultivation, with the potential to be used in animal feed and organic waste management. Keywords : Coconut Pulp (C. nucifera), pineapple peel (A. comosus), Maggot BSF (H. illucens), Tepung talas (C. Esculenta).
