Abstract

Indonesian society is faced with various diseases, one of which is caused by insect vectors. One of the insects that acts as a disease vector is the cockroach because cockroaches leave droppings containing pathogens or hazardous substances. Therefore, it is necessary to do other alternatives to control pests by using botanical insecticides derived from plant extracts such as mempelas leaves (Tetracera indica). The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of mempelas leaf extract that had the most effect on house cockroach mortality and to determine the Lethal Concentration 50% (LC50) value. This research was conducted from October 2024 to January 2025. This research was conducted at the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, and the Animal Biosystematics Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. Observations were made based on behavioral changes, morphological changes, and the number of house cockroaches that experienced mortality in each treatment for 1 hour and 24 hours, analysis of the data obtained using statistical methods such as ANOVA (Analysis of Variance), and analyzing data using probit analysis which aims to determine the LC50 value. The results showed that the extract of mempelas leaves affected house cockroaches on behavioral changes, morphology and mortality, with a success rate reaching 34% at 1 hour and 57% at 24 hours of treatment, and LC50 at 24 hours of treatment, namely 18.071% with a fairly toxic category. and the most influential concentration at a concentration of 40%. Mempelas leaf extract contains secondary metabolite compounds in the form of flavonoids and terpenoids which are toxic to house cockroaches.
