Abstract

Pelawan (Tristaniopsis merguensis Griff) is an endemic species with secondary metabolite content that has the potential as a natural biopesticide. This study aims to analyze the phytochemical content of leaf extracts, stem bark, and seeds of Pelawan and test its toxicity against Artemia salina Leach shrimp larvae using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Extraction was carried out by the maceration method using methanol solvent, while phytochemical analysis was carried out by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that Pelawan leaf extract had the highest yield (65.06%) compared to bark (10.80%) and seeds (6.32%). Phytochemical analysis detected various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, sesquiterpenes, phenols, triterpenoids, steroids, and other bioactive compounds that have the potential as natural insecticides. Toxicity tests showed that Pelawan leaf extract had the highest LC50 value of 114.838 µg/mL, which is included in the highly toxic category, while bark and seed extracts showed lower levels of toxicity. Based on these results, the Pelawan leaf part has the greatest potential as a basic ingredient for environmentally friendly pesticides.
