Abstract
Palembang City was the largest contributor to TB cases in South Sumatra Province. As a form of support for the success of Tuberculosis treatment, which required 6–24 months, the Indonesian government, in collaboration with the Masyarakat Sehat Sriwijaya (MSS) organization, provided assistance services to patients throughout their treatment period. The organization, represented by Case Managers, Patient Support, and health cadres, accompanied patients by practicing persuasive communication. This study aimed to examine the persuasive communication strategies employed by the organization in assisting TB patients in Palembang City. It adopted Onong U. Effendy’s communication strategy concept. This research used a qualitative approach through data collection techniques, including interviews, observations, and document studies. The findings showed that persuasive communication, based on the applied communication strategy concept, encompassed four aspects: communication target (understanding patient characteristics), communication media (choosing face-to-face communication and instant messaging—WhatsApp), communication message objectives (providing understanding and motivation, building patients' emotional awareness, and encouraging behavioral change), and the role of communicators (acting as educators, motivators, and emotional support providers). By implementing persuasive communication using messages such as education, motivation, storytelling, and emotional support, TB patients were able to persist in adhering to their treatment until recovery.
