Abstract

Indonesia is the country with the largest peat area in Southeast Asia, with most of the land located on the islands of Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua. Peat soil has a high compressibility value but its bearing capacity tends to be low. In addition, its physical properties are characterized by high porosity and high organic material content. Cerucuk gelam is a soil improvement method that utilizes gelam wood as small-diameter poles arranged vertically which function to increase soil stability. This study was conducted on modeling cerucuk gelam combined piled raft foundation. The modeling of the test object consists of a uniform length and distance ratio to diameter (s / d) of 35 cm and 2.50. In this study, the diameter of the cerucuk was varied by 1 cm, 1.5 cm, 2 cm, 2.5 cm, and 3 cm with a value of s / d equal to 2.50. Load testing was carried out to determine the ultimate bearing capacity of the soil after being reinforced. The test results showed that the soil bearing capacity increased after being reinforced with cerucuk gelam and decreased with increasing diameter of cerucuk gelam. The highest ultimate bearing capacity was obtained at a diameter of 1.00 cm of 22,736 kPa (Tangent Intersection method) and 39,735 kPa (Mazurkiewicz method). In addition, the BCR values were obtained, namely 3,318 (Tangent Intersection method) and 3,843 (Mazurkiewicz method), as well as an increase in BCR of 231.8% and 284.31% respectively.
