Abstract

Persons with physical disabilities are one of the groups included in the category of people with social welfare problems. This is because people with physical disabilities are vulnerable to problems of powerlessness, discrimination and poverty. This study aims to analyze the empowerment of physically disabled people and to find out the supporting factors and barriers to empowerment at the "Budi Perkasa" (BRSPDF) Palembang Physical Disability Rehabilitation Center. This research uses Empowerment Theory from Kartasasmita. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques carried out were observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the empowerment of the first physical disability was conducted at Budi Perkasa Palembang's BRSPDF namely rehabilitation guidance, including physical or medical therapy, spiritual therapy, social therapy/physical therapy, and livelihood therapy. In livelihood therapy there are various skills, namely computers, salons, electro, services HP, welding, automotive, mixed farming, crafts, and sewing. Both the results of empowerment through physical or medical therapy, mental spiritual therapy, social therapy/physical therapy, and livelihood therapy are able to foster self-confidence and motivation to be independent and not dependent on others. In addition, they have the skills capital so that they can be used in finding jobs or opening their own businesses later.
