Abstract

Thesis Title: "Criminal Law Enforcement Against Perpetrators of the Crime of Theft of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Cylinders in the Jurisdiction of Lahat Police Resort (Polres Lahat)". This thesis discusses the theft of 3 Kg LPG gas cylinders in the jurisdiction of the Lahat Police Resort, where LPG gas cylinders serve as a primary fuel source for the community and possess significant market value. Following news about the removal of subsidies for LPG gas cylinders, many people began purchasing them in excess, which has contributed to rising inflation. As a result, LPG cylinders have become scarce and even led to shortages. This situation is considered a contributing factor to the occurrence of theft crimes. The research problem addressed in this thesis is how criminal law is enforced and what factors influence the enforcement of criminal law against perpetrators of LPG cylinder theft in the jurisdiction of the Lahat Police Resort. This thesis applies normative legal research methods and utilizes empirical data collected through interviews with officials from Polres Lahat, Polsek Kikim Tengah, and Polsek Kikim Selatan. The research findings indicate that law enforcement against perpetrators is resolved through two approaches: by the three aforementioned official institutions and by the village head. The enforcement carried out by the three institutions is in accordance with the prevailing regulations in the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP). However, there are obstacles to law enforcement, such as communities that remain strongly bound to local customs and traditions. Keywords: Theft, Law Enforcement, LPG Gas Cylinder.
