Abstract

Soil insects play an essential role in maintaining ecosystem balance and can serve as bioindicators. This study aims to assess the diversity of soil insects as an indicator of reclamation success on post-mining land at Banko Barat ID 10, PT Bukit Asam, Tanjung Enim. Insect samples were collected using the Berlese-Tullgren Funnel method and identified to the genus level. Diversity analysis was conducted using the Shannon-Wiener index. A total of 154 soil insect individuals were identified, representing 8 genera from 3 orders. The Shannon-Wiener index (H') ranged from 1.28 to 1.71, indicating a moderate level of diversity. The dominance of the order Hymenoptera (70%) suggests that the ecosystem is still in the recovery phase. Environmental factors such as temperature, pH, soil moisture, and light intensity influenced insect distribution. These findings confirm that soil insects are effective bioindicators of ecosystem conditions in reclaimed post-mining land.
