Abstract
Scabies is a contagious skin disease that often occurs in dense environments, such as Islamic boarding schools. The myths that develop regarding the causes and treatment of scabies can influence the preventive behavior of student. Lack of correct knowledge about scabies can increase the incidence of this disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and beliefs about myths with the incidence of scabies at Al-Mubarok Islamic Boarding School, Soka Village, Tangerang Regency. This study used a cross-sectional design with the population were all students at the Al-Mubarok Islamic Boarding School. The sampling technique was carried out by random sampling with a sample size was 41 respondents selected based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Hypothesis testing for the variables of knowledge and belief about myths with the incidence of scabies used the non parametric Chi-Square test. The result od the analysis showed that there was significant relationship between the level of knowledge and belief about myths with the incidence of scabies in students with a p-value of 0.000 or 0.05. Students with low levels of knowledge tend to believe in myths more, which hasan impact on increasing the risk of scabies. Beliefs about myths can affect the understanding and practice of scabies prevention, so appropriate education is needed to increase students’ awareness in preventing and treating scabies effectively. The implications of this study are expected to be the basis for health education and intervention effors to improve students’ understanding and reduce beliefs about false myths in order to reduce the number of scabies incidence in the Islamic boarding school environment. Keywords: Beliefs, Myths, Islamic boarding schools, Scabies, Level of knowledge Skabies merupakan penyakit kulit menular yang sering terjadi di lingkungan padat, seperti pondok pesantren.
