Abstract

Biofloc technology is a system of utilizing inorganic nitrogen waste with probiotic bacteria so that it can be eaten by fish. One important component in biofloc is a carbon source such as molasses. However, the use of molasses as a carbon source is difficult to obtain. Therefore, alternative carbon sources are needed, one of which is tapioca starch. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of molasses and tapioca carbon sources on the growth of cork fish using probiotics from the swamp, namely Bacillus sp. and Streptomyces sp. This research was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond, Basic Fisheries Laboratory and Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory of Fishery Products, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in July-August 2024. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two treatments and three replicates, namely the provision of molasses carbon source (P1) and the provision of tapioca carbon source (P2). The carbon source was given every week in each treatment and replicate according to the C/N ratio of 15. The parameters observed included pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, TDS, ammonia, biofloc volume, survival, absolute weight length growth, total bacterial colonies and biofloc composition. Data on the research parameters were analyzed by T-test, but pH, temperature and biofloc composition were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the provision of carbon sources with tapioca starch (P2) was the best treatment that produced water quality values during rearing, pH 6.4-7.3, temperature 25.2-29.1oC, dissolved oxygen 2.93-5.70 mg L-1 , TDS 346.33-751.67 mg L-1 , ammonia 0.06-0.49 mg L-1 , biofloc volume 0.00-20.00 mL L-1 , survival 95.67%, and mean absolute length growth 6.67 cm, absolute weight 15.02 g.
