Abstract

Exploration of plant raw materials as a substitute for soybean meal in fish feed formulations is carried out continuously. Kissing gourami is classified as omnivorous tend to be herbivores requiring feed containing plant protein. Moringa leaves are one of the ingredients that can be used to substitute soybean meal. The research aimed to determine the maximum percentage of moringa leaf meal to substitute soybean meal in feed formulation for kissing gourami. The fish reared at the Basic Fisheries Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. Proximate analysis of feed was carried out at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, IPB University. This research was conducted on June-August 2023. This research used a completely randomized design consists of four treatments and three replications. The treatment given was the different percentages of moringa leaf meal and soybean meal in feed formulations namely 20% moringa leaf meal; 10% soybean meal; 4% tapioca flour and 16% bran (P0), 20% moringa leaf meal; 10% soybean meal; 10% tapioca flour and 10% bran (P1), 25% moringa leaf meal; 5% soybean meal; 10% tapioca flour and 10% bran (P2) and 30% moringa leaf meal; 0% soybean meal; 10% tapioca flour and 10% bran (P3). The result showed that moringa leaf meal was able to substitute soybean meal by maximum of 66.67% in the formulation for kissing gourami (P1) which resulted in absolute growth (length and weight) of 0.34 cm and 0.66 g respectively, protein efficiency ratio of 0.55, feed efficiency of 18.38% and survival was 98.33%. The water quality data of P1 includes temperature 26.7-28.0oC, pH 6.6-7.1, dissolved oxygen 3.84-4.34 mg L-1 and ammonia 0.052-0.099 mg L-1. Key words: feed, kissing gourami, moringa leaf meal, soybean meal.
