Abstract
Background: NAT2*6A gene polymorphism is the change of base pair C to T in base 282 and G to A on base 590 located in exon 2 of 8th chromosomes short-sleeve locus. This change of base causes the activity of NAT enzyme to be slow. This study aims to determine the proportion of NAT2*6A gene polymorphism in Malay tribe in South Sumatra. Method: The research subjects consisted of 40 samples in the Biomolecular Laboratory of Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. The genotype of NAT2*6A gene was performed by the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism technique. Results: Three genotypes variation were found from 1 point of mutation C282T. The highest genotype (35.3%) was TT genotype. At point G590A, the genotypes of GG, GA, and AA are not identified. Conclusion: At the point of C282T mutation, TT genotype is the most common genotype in the research subjects. At the point of G590A mutation, the genotypes of GG, GA, and AA are not identified so that the distribution of NAT2*6A gene alleles is unknown.
