Abstract
The nickel industry has a strategic role in supporting economic growth and the global energy transition, particularly in the development of electric vehicle battery technology. Competition among nickel exporting countries is becoming increasingly intense as global demand for this commodity increases. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of the nickel industry in the world's five highest exporting countries, namely Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia, New Caledonia and Australia during the period 2003 to 2023. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach with the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) indicator to measure the level of competitiveness of each country. In addition, panel data regression analysis was conducted to determine the effect of export volume and exchange rate on nickel competitiveness. The results of the RCA analysis show that Indonesia has relatively high competitiveness compared to other countries in the analyzed period. Meanwhile, the panel regression results show that export volume has a significant effect on competitiveness. Meanwhile, the exchange rate has no significant effect on competitiveness. These findings are expected to be a reference in the formulation of policies that support the strengthening of the competitive position of the Indonesian nickel industry in the global market.
