Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal dosage of seaweed-based biostimulants on the gowth and yield of sweet corn plants (Zea mays saccharata Sturt.). The research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang from August to November 2023. The method used in this study was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 5 treatments, each treatment repeated 6 times, resulting in 30 experimental units. Each experimental plot measured 2.5 x 3 m² with a planting distance of 70 cm x 30 cm, resulting in 35 plants. The treatments tested were P0: No treatment (control), P1: NPK 250 kg ha-1 + Urea 50 kg ha-1, P2: 3 L ha-1of seaweed-based biostimulant + NPK 250 kg ha-1 + Urea 50 kg ha-1, P3: 5 L ha-1 of seaweed-based biostimulant + NPK 250 kg ha-1 + Urea 50 kg ha-1, P4: 7 L ha-1 of seaweed-based biostimulant + NPK 250 kg ha-1 + Urea 50 kg ha-1. The variables observed in this study were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of cobs per stem, fresh and dry cob weight. The results showed that the application of seaweed-based biostimulants significantly affected plant height, stem diameter, fresh and dry cob weight, but did not significantly affect the number of cobs and number of leaves of sweet corn plants. Based on the mean values of each observed variable, it can be concluded that the treatment resulting in the best gowth of sweet corn plants was the control treatment (P0).
