Abstract

Latar Belakang : Tradisi menyirih menjadi salah satu budaya yang masih dipertahankan eksistensinya di Indonesia. Menyirih adalah kegiatan meramu campuran dari beberapa bahan seperti sirih, pinang, kapur, gambir dan tembakau yang dikunyah secara bersamaan. Meski dianggap bermanfaat untuk kesehatan gigi seperti mengatasi masalah mulut dan memperkuat gigi, dampak negatif seperti karies gigi masih ditemukan pada penyirih. Tujuan : Tujuan literatur ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh budaya menyirih terhadap karies gigi. Metode : literature review dilakukan menggunakan data Google scholar dan Pubmed selama 10 tahun terakhir dihitung sejak tahun 2015 hingga 2025. Jurnal yang digunakan sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi kemudian dilakukan analisis PICO dan dirangkum untuk mendapatkan data pengaruh budaya menyirih terhadap karies gigi pada jurnal tersebut. Hasil : Penelitian literature review ini berhasil menyintesis 7 jurnal yang terdiri atas 4 penelitian cross- sectional dan 3 penelitian case-control. Sebanyak enam dari tujuh jurnal menyatakan bahwa kebiasaan menyirih berpengaruh terhadap karies gigi. Kesimpulan : Budaya menyirih berpengaruh negatif terhadap karies gigi berdasarkan komposisi, frekuensi, durasi dan kebiasaan menyirih.
