Abstract

Indonesia has vast peatlands that are threatened by fire and degradation. Banyuasin Regency, with its environmental challenges, faces declining productivity and increasing fires. This study aims to analyse the effect of the Peat Care Independent Village Program in improving livestock productivity and conserving the peat ecosystem in Sidomulyo Village, Banyuasin Regency. The method used is the census withdrawal method with 30 respondents. The results showed that the Peat Care Independent Village Programme significantly increased livestock business productivity, with a contribution of 73.5%. The most significant variable was farmer income, although the level of livestock production and water management also contributed positively. Constraints in programme implementation, such as land fires, community participation, and erosion rates, were also shown to affect peat ecosystem conservation, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). This research emphasises the importance of managing land fires, increasing community participation, and controlling erosion in programme implementation. In addition, the programme has a significant effect on the conservation of peat ecosystems, reflected in the significant difference before and after the programme with a t-count value of -14.750 (p < 0.05.
